What is the world wide web? [closed]

I don't know where to post this question, so please move it if necessary.

Ok, so I've heard of how the professional hosting companies can create 'links' to the world wide web to register an unregistered domain.

So that's where my question comes from.

Is the world wide web a server to which servers link? Is it created by abstract linkage? I'm not sure.

Also, what does it mean for the DNS to be updated throughout the whole world?
